SOUTH FORK, Colo. – The Rio Grande Watershed Emergency Action Coordination Team (RWEACT) is providing a big assist to the Rio Grande National Forest by hiring a contractor to remove hazard trees at Tucker Ponds Campground this winter.
Spruce beetles have killed many of the trees in the campground leading the Forest Service to close the popular site last summer due to the risk of falling trees.
The work may begin as early as December 11 and is expected to take less than one week. Travel on Pass Creek Road (NFSR 390) is not expected to be impacted.
