BEND- Discover Your Forest has partnered with the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River National Grassland to offer a training opportunity for individuals who would like to become a Certified Interpretive Ranger (CIR) for the US Forest Service.
The 3 day course will be offered April 14, 21 and 28, 2015 beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day and participants will need to attend all three classes in order to receive certification. Classes are free to any US Forest Service employee or volunteer and will be held at Lava Lands Visitor Center, 58201 S. Hwy 97 in Bend, OR.
The CIR course was developed to ensure that US Forest Service staff and volunteers had the necessary training be effective and confident presenters of forest and grassland information. The training will be 3 full days (24 hours total) and will include an overview of interpretation, general forest or grassland resource information, and provide instruction on program development and communicating effectively with the public.
There will be oral and written exams at the end of the training and successful trainees will be awarded with an official certification from Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River National Grasslands. Rangers who are currently certified are encouraged to attend/participate in classroom trainings and site visits.
