Alturas, Calif. – The Doublehead Ranger District of the Modoc National Forest proposes to treat approximately 10,420 acres of western juniper (Juniperus occidentalis) on Forest system lands under the Clear Lake Sage-Grouse Habitat Improvement Project – Phase IV (CLP IV). CLP IV consists of four proposed project units. To meet the Purpose and Need, the following actions are proposed:
- Hand fell all juniper trees that do not exhibit old growth characteristics.
- Pile and burn slash across roughly 30 percent of the total treatment area.
- Lop slash throughout the project area.
