Construction times are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting on July 15.
The new route across BLM-managed lands will connect Rumsey Road (an existing Granite County road) to Echo Lake Road. The project also includes the construction of a new bridge across Fred Burr Creek.
The right-of-way was granted in 2014 after the BLM conducted an Environmental Assessment and took public comment on the project.
Officials at the BLM’s Missoula Field Office said they don’t anticipate any significant traffic delays due to the project, at least in the early stages.
“Near the end of the construction phase, we might see a few brief interruptions due to truck traffic, but they will only be intermittent,” said Lonna Sandau, realty specialist with the Missoula Field Office.
Sandau went on to explain that the roadwork will be carried out in stages: Phase I occurs on the south side of Fred Burr Creek, Phase 2 will be the north side of the river, Phase 3 will be bridge construction, and Phase 4 will be the finish grade.
This new northern route will provide access to the north side of Discovery Ski area and the Discovery Mountain Bike Park.
