Goat Mountain Road #6636 and Lower Scab Rock Trail #262 will be temporarily closed to ensure the work can be completed safely. Yellowstone District Ranger Alex Sienkiewicz is concerned about the safety of the log hauling operations, as well as any recreationists that could access the active logging area. “In order to ensure that everyone stays safe while recreating on their NFS lands, we need to temporarily close the areas where the logging will be taking place,” Sienkiewicz stated. “We appreciate everyone’s patience while we complete this important work.” The logging company will be plowing the Smith Creek Road up to its junction with Goat Mountain Road.
This logging is a continuation of the Smith Creek Fuels Reduction Project that began in February of 2014. The intent of the project is to reduce fuels and fire behavior, which will allow for safer firefighter response and public evacuation in the event of a wildfire in the Smith Creek area.
