The proposed project includes commercial timber harvest on approximately 1,200 acres of lodgepole pine and mixed conifer. Additional actions being proposed include decommissioning two closed National Forest System roads.
The purpose of the proposed timber sale is to achieve objectives in the 2005 Revised Forest Plan by offering wood products, improving forest health, reducing current levels of insects and diseases, improving aspen habitat, and improving short- and long-term aesthetics along U.S. Highway 16, the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway. The purpose also includes helping protect the public, firefighters, and property in the event of a wildfire by managing fuels.
A notice of proposed action, including a map and details about proposed activities, is available on the Bighorn’s website at http://1.usa.gov/1Jl9lcj.
