Sheridan, Wyo. (August 13, 2015) – Firefighters continue to monitor and patrol the Sheep Creek Fire burning in the Tongue River Canyon west of Dayton.
Incident Commander Ty Tabber said firefighters are monitoring the fire from the air, checking for hot spots and dropping water where needed, while Dayton Volunteer Fire Department engines patrol from the ground.
While smoke may be visible from the interior of the fire from time to time, the fire has not grown in size for several days and remains at 1,667 acres.
About 10 personnel are assigned to the fire.
The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office and Forest Service law enforcement continue to investigate the human-caused fire.
The Amsden Creek Wildlife Habitat Management Area remains closed, as does Forest Service Trail 002, the Tongue River Canyon Trail. Forest Service and Wyoming Game and Fish Department managers will lift the closures when the area is deemed safe for the public.
