OGDEN, ID – The Intermountain Region District Ranger of the Year is Ken Gebhardt, North Fork District Ranger on the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
This award recognizes the District Ranger in the Intermountain Region who best exemplifies management excellence and pays tribute to the one District Ranger whose overall achievement is clearly extraordinary.
Ken Gebhardt truly lives by the Forest Service motto, “Caring for the Land and Serving People.” Ken is a true, “boots on the ground” District Ranger. When Ken arrived on the Salmon-Challis NF, Forest Supervisor, Charles Mark charged him with seeing through to decision and implementation the Upper North Fork Health Forest Restoration Act (HFRA) Ecosystem Restoration Project. He took charge of this 41,000 acre landscape restoration project, guided the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), and negotiated internal issues, concerns from having been involved from project conception.
Ken is a true, “boots on the ground” District Ranger. Ken goes out and works with his employees. And he supports his employees. He allows them opportunities to get out of their comfort zone and try new roles and responsibilities. Ken is all about seeing his employees succeed, mature, and prosper in the Forest Service.
