Crown Point Road is located three miles south of Highway 14 off the Pingree Park Road (County Road 63E). It will be closed to all forms of travel while 300 acres of hazardous trees are cut along both sides of the road. The closure starts just after the roads intersection with Salt Cabin Park Road. Approximately 15 miles of the road will be closed.
Along with the road, 300 feet on either side of the road is also closed as heavy equipment and logging trucks may be on and along the road. Some equipment used can throw chunks of wood and rocks with great force, posing a serious threat to those in the area. This closure will likely be in place through 2016, depending on when work can be completed.
This closure is likely to be an inconvenience to some forest visitors; however it is imperative for public safety that the road is closed to public access. Due to the high recreation use along the road, it is a priority for roadside hazard treatment. This closure specifically impacts the Browns Lake Trail (#941) and the Zimmerman Trail (#940); however, there are other trails which access adjacent areas.
